About this hidden track
(Title Unknown) is a hidden song by Prodigal from their album Electric Eye.
In one of the most unique uses of a hidden track, the LP featured computer code that could be played on a Commodore 64 to show quote by Albert Einstein and Jesus Christ.
Frontman Loyd Boldman said in a 2009 interview, “We put a ‘stop-groove’ at the end of side two that would ‘catch’ the vinyl record and wouldn’t allow it to eject on an automatic turntable. If you picked up the needle and set it down again on the other side of the stop-groove, you’d hear a packet of computer code that could be deciphered by a Commodore 64, the most popular computer of that time. If you used a cassette drive, the Commodore would show you lyrics and graphics and some facts about the album.”
The quotes are:
“Perfection of means and confusion of goals seem–in my opinion–to characterize our age” – Albert Einstein
“Peace I leave with you; My peace I give unto you, not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” – Jesus, John 14:27
About Electric Eye
Prodigal’s Electric Eye was released in 1982 and marked an important progression in the band’s sound, showcasing their blend of pop rock and new wave influences. The album featured tracks like “Electric Eye,” “Scene of the Crime,” and “Emerald City,” with introspective lyrics exploring themes of personal reflection, faith, and the complexities of modern life. The band’s sound was more polished and experimental, incorporating synthesizers and electronic elements alongside their acoustic and electric guitars. Electric Eye continued to highlight Prodigal’s ability to combine catchy melodies with thoughtful spiritual themes. While the album did not achieve mainstream commercial success, it was well-received within the Christian rock community and further established Prodigal as a significant presence in the genre during the early 1980s.
