“I hadn’t intended to have a cover on the album at all. The record company asked me to put it on the album as a bonus song because it was a song that I had done for The Conspiracy Theory score. It wasn’t even on the soundtrack. Someone heard it, took it from the film and started playing it on the radio. It spread right across the States, a song that was never intended for radio play or even release. I thought it was kind of funny, another cover version taking off like that. Naturally there was some record company pressure, but if I had my way it wouldn’t be on it at all.” – Lauryn Hill in ‘Muse’, 1998.
The song was nominated for the 1999 Grammy Award for “Best Female Pop Vocal Performance” – the first instance of a hidden track being nominated for a Grammy.
