Throwing Muses: Limbo

About “White Bikini Sand”

“White Bikini Sand” is a hidden song by Throwing Muses from their album Limbo.

Kristin Hersh’s father sent her the lyrics to “White Bikini Sand” in a letter. Kristin ignored the letter, and then two years later when the Throwing Muses were recording Limbo, she read the words and decided to record the song. She wanted to credit her father as the writer of the song, but he told her that he hadn’t written it, she had — she sang it to him in a dream. Neither of them wanted to take credit for writing the song, which is why it ended up as a hidden track (via Hersh Head).

About Limbo

Limbo is the sixth studio album by the American alternative rock band Throwing Muses, released in 1996. This album marked a return to the spotlight for the band, as it was their first full-length release after a brief hiatus.

Limbo showcases Throwing Muses’ signature blend of alternative rock and post-punk influences. Kristin Hersh’s distinctive, emotionally charged vocals and songwriting shine through tracks like “Bright Yellow Gun” and “Golden Thing.”

While Limbo didn’t achieve the same commercial success as some of their earlier albums, it was well-received by critics and loyal fans. The album’s complex, introspective lyrics and unique musical arrangements make it a notable entry in Throwing Muses’ discography, offering a blend of innovation and emotional depth.
