About Hootie & The Blowfish
Hootie & The Blowfish is a self-titled album that was released in 2003. This was the band’s fifth studio album and marked a departure from their previous sound, which had been labeled as “college rock” or “jangle pop”. The album had a more straightforward rock sound, with the band collaborating with producers such as Don Gehman and Matt Serletic.
The album’s lead single “Innocence” became a hit on adult contemporary radio, while other tracks such as “Desert Mountain Showdown” and “Hey Sister Pretty” showcased the band’s harder rock edge. The album was generally well-received by critics, with many praising the band’s new direction and their ability to adapt to changing musical trends.
Despite the positive critical reception, Hootie & The Blowfish failed to match the commercial success of the band’s earlier releases, and would be their last album until their reunion in 2019.
