About Mic City Sons
Heatmiser was a short-lived alternative rock band from Portland, Oregon, active from 1991 to 1996. Their third and final album, Mic City Sons, was released in 1996 and is widely regarded as their masterpiece. The album features complex, layered guitar work, intricate arrangements, and deeply personal lyrics that touch on themes of love, loss, and the struggles of everyday life.
Mic City Sons is notable for its raw and intense sound, which captures the energy and emotion of Heatmiser’s live performances. The album’s standout tracks include “Plainclothes Man,” a scorching rocker that explores themes of masculinity and power dynamics, and “You Gotta Move,” a haunting ballad that features some of frontman Elliott Smith’s most affecting lyrics.
Despite its critical acclaim, Mic City Sons was not a commercial success, and Heatmiser disbanded soon after its release. However, the album’s influence can be heard in the work of many contemporary indie rock acts and has helped cement Heatmiser’s legacy as one of the most influential bands of the 1990s Pacific Northwest music scene.
