About Kent
Big Ass Truck was a rock band from Memphis, Tennessee. Their second album, Kent, was released in 1998 on Peacock Records. The album was produced by Jim Dickinson and features a mix of rock, funk, and soul influences.
The opening track, “Up to Here,” sets the tone with its gritty guitar riffs and funky bass line. “Can’t Get My Head Around You” features a bluesy guitar solo and catchy chorus, while “King of the Mountain” has a more laid-back groove with a horn section adding a jazzy touch. Other standout tracks include the funky “Sufferin’,” the driving rocker “Trick,” and the soulful ballad “Tongue Tied.” The album closes with a cover of Bob Dylan’s “All Along the Watchtower,” which the band gives a heavy, psychedelic treatment.
Kent showcases Big Ass Truck’s ability to blend different genres into a cohesive sound that is both energetic and soulful. Although the band never achieved mainstream success, the album remains a fan favorite and a testament to their unique sound.
